When you use audio connector, the audio streams from and to Genesys Cloud over a secure web socket connection (see audio connector overview) . Authentication is provided using API keys and client secrets as well. For more information on security see Configure and activate Audio Connector in Genesys Cloud - Genesys Cloud Resource Center
AudioConnector does play a part in controlling communications but what are you specifically referring to here ? Also see Audio Hooks for more control over a call flow!
