I was wondering if there was a way we could show how many characters the customers have typed in the chat field. We have a few validations that only allow a user to enter a specific number of characters and it would be nice to let them know how many they have typed before they get to the end, and we tell them it's too many. Trying to reduce frustration to our customers when we restrict the number of characters they can use in a particular field only to be told in the end its too many.
At the moment the maximum Inbound Message size is at 4096 characters (not configurable) > What is the size limit for inbound web messages? - Genesys Cloud Resource Center
Once limit is reached, Messenger UI will stop accepting further characters, or truncate attempts to paste larger text beyond limit. We never show the "too many character" error.
Would recommend to raise an Idea for char counter for future evaluation.
