We're a Genesys reseller. If we wanted to provide free apps to our customers via the App Foundry, what's the best way of doing that? Do I need to have approval from Genesys to add a free app to the AppFoundry?

AppFoundry does not provide support for free apps.
It is meant for partners who want to expose and to sell their application via AppFoundry.
Partners must join the AppFoundry program and get their application approved before being able to expose it on the AppFoundry web site.

fair enough, but the documentation talks about free community apps. How are they hosted/deployed etc? Or is it up to the reseller to host themselves?

Here is a recording of the last AppFoundry Program Update (March 2023).
Available App Types are shown at 35:15.
In terms of application type not involving sales aspect, only Blueprint and Template are available.
Template are for Data Actions, Bot flows, ....
Blueprint involves an article describing the integration between Genesys Cloud and the Third Party Software and publishing the code that would possibly be used to integrate Genesys Cloud with the 3rd party as open source (on a public repository).
