Invisible text in input field - Android mobile messenger SDK

I have an issue with integrating the mobile sdk in our application where the textinput text box doesn't show the text. Something to do with the

com.genesys.cloud.ui.views.autocomplete.CustomedAutocompleteTextView

being used.

I'm wondering if anyone has seen this.
Here's some screenshots - you can clearly see that there is text there but it's just not visible.
The space also doesn't grow proportionally if there's more than one line which makes me suspect that the actual font size is 0 or something like this (rather than just being a color issue).

I tried reproducing this in a small sample, but it did not repro. I'm suspecting there's some theme or style in the SDK that conflicts with something set in the app.
